It is The Little Things That Matter to Make Your Life, Relationship and Business Flourish

It is amazing how much the little things in your life, relationships and business really matters .  I was witnessed this week to the final part of three seemingly insignificant events that made a dramatic change in my friend’s life.   We might think that the little things does not matter, but in reality little things are more important than the big picture.  The saying goes that we must stop and smell the roses.  We stand from afar and admire the beauty of the rose, but how often do we stop to truly appreciate it up close.  The answer is not usually.

When I think of how this relates to my business it all about “modi operandi” that is the key to my business success.  If you treat your business like a “hobby” then guess what it will continue to be.  It is about the little things that we do everyday to propel our businesses forward.  Are you marketing, advertising and developing strategies daily in your business?  If not it is not too late to begin.  You may directs, contain and utilize the power of water, but you may never control or destroy it.  A continuous stream of water could destroy the biggest rock over time.  It might not happen for one, five or fifty but rest assure it will happen.  How could doing the little things impact your life and relationships?

If you don’t believe that it is the little things stop reading this post and send your love one an unexpected appreciative “love note”.  The reaction that you will receive will be surprising.  This note of gratitude will not only benefit your loved one, but will also benefit you also.  The series of little things is what make a great relationship.  When your significant other is complaining about you leaving the toilet seat up is it really about the toilet seat of something deeper that is bothering her. As men we are late to pick up on these little “subtleties” that will snowball into an avalanche that will bury us.

The quicker that we pick up on these little “disagreements”  the sooner we can work on finding the “solution”.  I have placed solution in quotation, because that is a whole new discussion about men and women differences.  It has come to me time and time again that it is the little things that make your life, relationship and business better.  This week I want you to focus on the little things, then give me some feedback.

Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For is Revisited

Napoleon Hill’s The Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson revisits the habit of doing more than paid for, which was first introduced in “Think and Grow Rich”.  When I first read about this concept I saw it in a totally different light.  When I write my blog articles I always let them sit for a day or so.  I don’t know what it is, but for some reason I always revised it to reflect my feelings at that moment.  It should be no big surprise that as I read an article that I wrote on this same topic back in June, 2009 I am feeling differently about it.  The act doing more than is ask is the key to sending the right vibe out into the Universe.  If you send out positive vibes, then you would receive positive vibes in return.

It is like you are building a favor chest that will overflow the more you do thing without expecting something in return.  It is not only about doing more than is expected of you, but doing it without waiting for something in return.  Napoleon Hill has a way of getting to the crux of the matter without hesitation.  For example,  I was listening to my daily morning show the other day and Steve Harvey was using the example of a neighbor borrowing sugar to get his point across.  A new neighbor comes on day one to ask for a bowl of sugar, you would probably give it to him the sugar without hesitation.  The neighbor leave without a simple thank you. The neighbor comes  day two and the same thing happens,  no thank you again.  How do you react on day three when the neighbor appears at your door?

If you are in the habit of doing more than you are paid you would give the neighbor the sugar.  If you are like the average person in the world, you might give the sugar but not without a barrage of choice words.  There is no wrong way to respond to this attitude of ingratitude. The question is when do you stop being taken advantage of.  When I  managed restaurants back in the early part of my career,  I learned a few critical lessons.  You always will encounter people who want something for nothing.  It is how you react to these “freeloaders” that matters.  If you assume that everyone is like that then you will become jaded.  You will look at every customer complaint as someone looking for a free meal.  I treated each situation on a case by case basis,  because I realized that these “freeloaders” only accounted for a small percentage of our business.   I was in the habit of doing more than you are paid, so my decision was easy.

P.S.  There are some crucial character traits that you need to succeed and they are initiative and leadership.  Napoleon gets very deep into this subject in Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson.  Read my thoughts on this topic  here

Gold Nuggets #2 From Zig Ziglar “See You At The Top”

Filed under: Leadership,Personal Development,Self Empowerment — Tags: , — Shirland Carrington @ 9:01 am

I am discovering these nuggets as I read this book.  I am not surprised that I don’t know what I don’t know.   “The person who won’t read is no better off than the person who can’t read.”  What is the last book that you have read?  If you are scratching your head with a puzzled look, then this article is about you.  The power to be able read is available to most people.  The problem is that most people stop reading for recreational.   It is normal to read for a book report when you are in high school.    It just seems that once high school is finished most people stop reading.  The only book they read is a  magazine or the newspaper.

It is as if once that last book report is done, a switch goes off.  If you ever want to keep something a secret put it in a book.   I know that that is very harsh statement, but it very true.   It just seems like only a few people find and implement the secrets of success.  The average person never find out the secret or have no desire to look.  The saying is “seek and ye shall find”.  The secret to success is written in all the greatest books of the World.   You only have to open the book and apply the knowledge gain.  Knowledge is the key is a famous saying from the old days.  It should actually read that the application of knowledge is the key.  The  “person who knows but won’t use success principles and information is no better than the person who doesn’t know them.”

Gold Nuggets From See You at The Top by Zig Ziglar

Filed under: Leadership,Personal Development,Self Empowerment — Tags: , , , — Shirland Carrington @ 8:18 am

The gold nuggets from the classic “see You at The Top” by Zig Ziglar are never ending and plentiful.  The gold nuggets that I am going to discuss today is “the price of success is much lower than the price of failure”.  This quote is a reminder of a blog post I wrote a few years back.  Read my blog post  it dealt with the pain of failure or the pain of regret.  Zig Ziglar say the same thing in a different way.  It all stem from the mindset of the person in charge of his or her destiny.  I don’t remember where I heard it but I remember a story of a wise man who was given a choice by an evil man.

The evil man had a bird in his hands that was hidden.  The wise man could not tell if the bird was alive or dead.  He asked the wise man if the bird was alive or dead. The wise man knew that if he stated that the bird was alive.  The evil man would have broken the bird’s neck.  He also knew that if he said the bird was dead, then the evil man would have open his head and let the bird fly away.  The wise man thought about for a few and told the evil man the fate of the bird is up to you.

Zig  concluded the meaning of this parable in a similar fashion “in your hands you hold the seeds of failure or the potential for greatness”.  The decision to be a failure or success is up to you and you alone.  If you point your finger at the person you feel is responsible for your failure.  It is only natural that 3 fingers point squarely at yourself.  Zig Ziglar’ statement is powerful in it own right even though it is simple stated.  The price of success does cost less than the price of failure.  When you fail you tend to live that failure over and over again.  It is if a 2000 pound elephant is weighing you down in a kiddie pool that is your life.

The More You Read The More Successful You Will Become

I was listening to a video series by Kevin Trudeau(KT) entitled “Your Wish is Your Command”. It is very interesting audio series that makes you think about what it truly takes to be successful.  He made a very interesting statement that said “Leaders are always readers”.  He also gave a list of books that he believe that should be part of every serious minded entrepreneur.  Leaders are always working on their mind on a regular basis.  When your mind is right the “facts don’t matter”.

It is critical that you work on your thinking and motivation.  It is not that you read a book once, it that you read that book many times.  I have read “Think and Grow Rich” a few times now and I get different golden nuggets each time.  The words on the book was not change by some “Kindle” glitch.  The book did not change in the passage of time, it was I that changed.

It is amazing that you will get exactly what you need from any book that you read at the perfect time.  KT uses the analogy of your favorite compact disk(CD) to illustrate the point.  You were listening to this CD and by some miracle you heard a cut that   you never heard before.  The CD was not change, it was you that changed.  The most successful not only read books, but they read the same books multiple times.

The most successful people are always reading books that improve their minds.  You will not see the most successful people watching the latest reality show twenty four hours per day.  It is one thing to watch television for a couple of hours per day, but never overdo it.  If you are watching television all day long how can you clearly define your dreams.  When you start watching a show,  it is amazing how fast an hour goes by.  The passage of time is so quick that making definite goals are out the window.

The key to success as defined by Napoleon Hill is clearly defined dreams and a burning desire.  When you read books that help you make your dreams more targeted is the best way to spend your time.   The time you spend as a coach potato is not going to help you achieve success.  The key is focus on your goals with a burning desire for success and you will be successful.

Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success Lesson #6: Enthusiasm is a Vital Moving Force That Impels Action

Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success Lesson #6: Enthusiasm is a vital moving force that impels action.  Napoleon Hill states that the greatest leaders are those who inspire enthusiasm in their followers. It is one thing for the followers to be pumped up it is even better when they have a definite chief aim. When the followers has a laser sharp enthusiastic belief system, then everything will explode. Enthusiasm is very contagious. The acronym for the last four letter is I.A.S.M is I am sold myself.

When you are sold about your life, business or relationships you feel no pain, require no sleep and barely require nutrients.  When you are enthuse it like you are walking on a cloud way above the trees. Your feet never touches the ground.  I know it sound mythical and almost unbelievable, but when you are sold on what you are doing it is so much easier to jump out of bed every morning.  If you don’t believe that then you might appreciate this fact most heart attacks occur early Monday morning.

The most popular time for heart attacks  is within the last three hours of getting up to go to work.  The heart stopped beating, because most people dreaded going into their job on Monday morning. Monday is the deadliest day of the week for a myocardial infraction. The weekend was fantastic, but the prospect of having to go into work is overwhelming. The flip side is Fridays, people are looking forward to the weekend.  The enthusiasm and the buzz about what you are going to do on the weekend is out of this world.  It is truly unnecessary to motivate anyone to race through the door. It is so much easier to get work done to complete the day. The least productive, but most enthusiastic is the last hour before quitting time.

We feel no pain just before going home for the weekend.  When we feel enthusiasm, we accomplish more. When I initially worked in the restaurant business I was gung ho and could not wait to get to work.  I was like that for many years until I realized a key important fact.  I could work from can to faint and no matter what the restaurant would continue, even if I left all of a sudden.  When I viewed time with my sons more it was easier to work a plan.  I never knew what it was to have a weekend off, without planning for months ahead of time.  When you are enthusiastic about your goals and dreams it is much easier to accomplish them.  Napoleon Hill ‘s “Laws of Success” are razor targeted on what you need to get where you ant to go.  You have to be selfish with your goals otherwise you will never achieve them.

P.S If you missed Law of Success #5 which is imagination read it here.  Imagination is a great tool in building your successful life, business or relationships.  watch my video below that i did when I READ “Think and Grow Rich” on imagination below:

Motor Club of America: One Phone Call and Actual Benefit in Motion

Filed under: Personal Development — Tags: , — Shirland Carrington @ 9:41 pm

Motor Club of America(MCA) took only one phone call.  I witnessed actual benefit in motion, even though my car did not want to move.  It finally moved with the assistance of MCA.  My sons were driving my car and stopped by a friend.  The car did not want to start when they were about to leave.  You would think that I should have been distressed, but I was not.  It is one thing to market a business, but it is another thing to use the benefits.  It makes what you market very real.

Down for The Count

2005 Monte Carlo

I did not doctor the pictures, that is how dark it was.  My friends lives about five minutes away from a horse stable, so you know that street lights are not plentiful in a rural area.

When you are broke down on the road is good to see those bright lights reversing to tow away your car.  My sons were at a friend’s home, so they were in a safe place.

Hitch me up and secure me.  Zero dollar out of pocket for this benefit.

Strap Me In Ready to Go

Let’s Go.

I have previously use another company for many years.  MCA did something that never happened before.  The other company picked me up before when I was stranded.  They came in a timely manner just like MCA.  The tow truck driver made a confirmation phone call.  MCA does the weirdest thing,  I received a followup call about an hour and half later to make sure everything went well.

Online Market Research For Blogging or Various Internet Marketing Paid Methods

Online market research for blogging or various internet marketing paid methods is one that should not be taken likely.  When you are looking for keywords that your potential market might be entering into a Google or other search engine it is critical that you are as exact as possible.  The concept of throwing the biggest net that you can get your hand on is an out of date strategy.  You must have a specific target market in mind.  Everest University knows exactly the type of students that they are trying to attract.  When I watch their commercials on television, I have no doubt that they are targeting single women with a family who need a break in life.   I am quite sure that they are successful at that, because it is clear and precise.  Your online market research must be as targeted as Everest University.

When I see their ads I know who they are trying to attract.  If your internet marketing method is vague and diluted then you might occasional get a signup once in a while but you will never have that phenomenal success.  The cost of your marketing will be over inflated and you will never recoup your losses.  If you use a big net and you are totally off base how accurately can you adjust.  When you cast a smaller net, you have an advantage over a big net.  You can reel it in, adjust slightly and recast quickly.  Napoleon Hill stated that unsuccessful people are slow to decision and quick to change and successful people are quick to a decision and slow to change it.  Successful people do not go after the most recent shiny object.

When you are doing online market research to setup a blog so you may generate leads for your primary business.  Search Engine Optimization(SEO)  is a great internet marketing strategy even though it is slower than paid methods.  The difference is that most of your SEO leads are acquired at very low cost.  Google External Keyword Tool is a great resource to use whether you are using paid or SEO strategies to grow your internet marketing business.  A blog is well liked by Google and as long as you keep your content fresh and original it is seldom that you are giving that famous slap.

Market research for your internet marketing business may be done inexpensively by using free tools.  The key to success is to make you continue the conversation that is going on inside your target market.  If I on your ad about dog lovers and as soon as I click on you link I see nothing but cats.  I am not only going to run away quickly(bounce rate) which signals to Google that you are a spammer.   Read more about Online Marketing Strategies, such as using Video Marketing.

Law of Success Lesson #5: Imagination

Imagination is like Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities famous opening line “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,…. ”  When we are reading the beginning we are trying to visualize the scene that he is describing so we may better get a grasp of where the story is going.  We automatically start thinking about the good times and the bad times in our lives.  When the good times flashes cross your mind you smile.  It is very difficult not to smile when you are thinking about good things.  The bad times take us to a place that we don’t like to be on a regular basis.  Our mood goes from a high to a low as we read this line.  Napoleon Hill uses this concept as it ties into initiative and leadership in his book Law of Success.

“You will never have a definite purpose in life, you will never have self-confidence, you will never have initiative and leadership unless you first create these qualities in your imagination and see yourself in possession of them.”  Imagination is the one thing in our lives that we have absolute control.  Think and Grow Rich stated that desire is the first step to riches.  Our thoughts determines our destiny.  When I was growing up in the 1980s I saw transformation in many people.  A drugs called “crack” was the main cause of these transformations.  I saw people that were productive citizen of the World turn into single focus organisms.  The focus became finding a way to get “high” again.

When you are focusing on getting “high” , how would you able to expand your imagination.  When your thoughts are on things that are not good for you, then it is easy to see your destiny.  Your destiny of self destruction is deeply embedded in your psyche.  When you flip it around and focus on something that is great for you, then you destiny of greatness is also written.  The choice is your….

Law of Success Lesson #4: Initiative and Leadership

Filed under: Personal Development,Self Empowerment — Tags: , , , — Shirland Carrington @ 11:57 am

“…Leadership is essential for the attainment of Success, and Initiative is as essential to success as a hub is essential to a wagon wheel.”  Many major accomplishments may be reached in your life, because of these two essential characteristics.  Napoleon Hill looked at these two keys to success separately but tied them together nicely to teach this lesson.  The old sayings that many of us heard as a child were “too many chiefs and  not enough Indians”  or “too many cooks spoil the broth”.  The first saying have a overabundance of leaders, while the latter had no leader in sight.  The obvious answer is that the right amount of leadership is needed in many organizations to achieve their goals.  The saying would have gone a lot differently if some of the chiefs became Indians and a lone cook stepped up as the head chef.  Leadership and initiative would have solved the dilemmas that they faced.  Napoleon Hill tied these two important concepts together in a big bundle for everyone to comprehend.

Initiative and leadership goes hand in hand.  A great philosopher once said that “Initiative is the pass-key that opens the door to opportunity.”   The major opponent to opening this door is procrastination.  Napoleon Hill believed that procrastination and indecision are twins.  Indecision is probably the worse of the these twins.  You must make the decision and follow through with it to the very end. A person with initiative can not be plagued with indecision.  A decision is defined as choosing a path and cutting off all other alternative pathways.  The ugly head of procrastination must be cut off if you are to succeed.  Procrastination may come in the form of spending extra time on Facebook or other Social Medias instead of doing things that will help you achieve success.   The act of getting ready to get ready never solves anything.  ” Remember that your only limitation is the one that you set up in your mind”

The leader will always see beyond the limitation that other people set for them.  The leader with an acorn and a piece of land might see a future totally different than a follower.  A follower might see a mighty Oak Tree while the leader would see a community with a big mighty Oak Tree,  families living around the tree and a Lake with an overabundance of fishes.  The leader with initiative will not listen to naysayers that tell him that the acorn is just a nut.  The leadership that he will have make him keep his eye on his vision no matter what other people say or do.  His or her ability to block out all negatives, even the negative self talk coming from within.  The end result of families living around the Oak Tree is all the motivation that they need.
