Zig Ziglar in his book “See you at The Top” talks about education vs. intelligence and which one is more important. Zig states that ” three of the most intelligent and success people I know finished the 3rd, 5th and 8th grades.” He was talking about Henry Ford and Thomas J. Watson were two of the three. Henry Ford legacy is still going on today. Henry Ford believed that if he needed anything beyond his capacity he would hire that person. He knew his strengths and weaknesses and was not ashamed to get someone who knew the answer. He also knew how to get what he needed out of his “people”. Watson was the “founder of IBM and he went from a $6.00 a week salesman to chairman of the board”. The American dream at it finest. The difference between these two and the “average” guy is that they were dedicated. The “formal” education was not necessary for these highly successful people. It was the intelligence and the will to never quit that made them successful.
When I was growing up I was told to go to school and complete your education. I would then go to work for a company for twenty-five to thirty years and then retire and live happily ever after. I know that scenario sound familiar to many people. I follow that path for many years but, then I realized that it was not the life for me. When I had that awakening I have always been on alert for the opportunity that would help me succeed. I don’t believe in jumping on the next shiny object that catches my eye. I follow opportunities that I feel good about.
Education is one thing, but intelligence is totally something else all together. My formal degree is Electrical Engineering, my real education I imagine would not begin until after I read my last Engineering book. It would be the hands on knowledge that would make me a successful engineer. My first degree is Electrical Engineering , I have never held a position with that title. I can only speculate that how it would be in my life since everything else I do is actually like that.
Zig Ziglar believe that intelligence is not required to be successful. He state success is in the hands of the person who is trying to achieve it. It is only necessary like Napoleon Hill’s stated that he has a burning desire towards the achievement of his or her goals and dreams.
Napoleon Hill writes in “Law of Success in Fifteen Lessons” Enthusiasm is a “vital moving force that impels action” and Self control is the “balance wheel that directs your action so that it will build up and not tear down.” Self control is compared to a balance wheel which is a key component of mechanical watches. It is very important that it returns to its original position. When we are not in control of our action it is most likely that we will be lead astray. Enthusiasm is contagious you may pass it on to the next person easily. Have you either watch a person who was so on fire that you found your self getting emotionally charged. You were ready to do whatever the person wanted you to do at the time. When the person left how did you keep that enthused feeling up. The odds are you did not, because it may have passed on without difficult.
Self control is the most important trait that you must possess when you are trying to stay on track. The track is never cleared of obstacles, but controlling one’s self allow your goals and dreams to come true. When you continue to struggle daily in your business and your goals never come to fruition. The desire to give up is a daily demon and it is very easy to give up. the worse enemy that we face on a daily basis is the negativity between our ears. The self defeating, self defecating and mental vomit that we feed ourselves on a regular basis.
The more control that you have over the space between the ears the greater the opportunity that you will succeed in your life, business and relationship. It does not a strong belief in the Law of Attraction that “if you belief that you can’t that it is so”. I have been in and around selling for most of my life and one thing I know is that if you believe that that person will not buy from you, it is no surprise when they don’t. I am not saying that you will sell everyone that you present your product or services to, but if you don’t have self-control. No sale. Self control is the key to continue your journey to become successful.
I have been in the marketing my business online for many years. I have always been the one who never went to the Live Events. I thought the live events were not important because I “work from home”. The funny part is that live events are absolutely necessary to take your business to the next level.
My mentor have always told me that going to the Live Events is not an option, but a requirement. His explanation was that until I go to Live Events my online marketing business would be a hobby and not a real business. I have put off that tasks off for over 5 years and when Empower Network was coming to Orlando for a Regional Event I knew I could not miss that one. I had to make a few plans to make it happen, but I knew in the end it would be worth it. I did not go with a preconception of what was going to happen. I just went with an open mind and a blank page.
I was immediately inflicted with the energy of the room. When you have that many like minded individuals in one room it is very easy to be drawn into the power of the mastermind. The synergy of the room is dynamic and gets stronger by the minute. There were a unique variation of people at the live event. The power of that mastermind matters because once you go back to the “real world” it is that experience that will empower you.
Live Events make you realize that there is no time like too present to get off your butt and go to work. You are looking at people on stage saying to yourself that if he or she can do it I know without a doubt that I can do it.Rhoda Swan talked about the vow that she made to her daughter and doing everything in her power to never break that promise. When you hear about that type of commitment and dedication, it is very difficult to not get overfilled with enthusiasm. As I discussed in my blog earlier Enthusiasm is a “vital moving force that impels action”. John Levenia discussed the acronym “I.A.S.M” which stands for “I am sold myself” and coincidentally is the last four letters of the word enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is contagious, but it is self-control that will take your business to the next level.
I have taken a complete one eighty on my opinion about Live Events. These events are truly the rejuvenation that is necessary to keep you on point in your work from home business. When you work from home, it is easy to get tunnel vision. You are only aware of your daily mode of operandi and nothing else. It is much better to be in a room when joint venture, friendships, and ideas could develop. I have now made a commitment to make as many Live Events as possible.
I am digging up more and more golden nuggets as I continue to read Zig Ziglar’s “See You at The Top”. I know that most of you reading this blog post have heard about the term faking it until you make it. This is not the fourth gold nugget that I picked up from Zig Ziglar’s “See You at The Top”. The actual nugget is “you cannot consistently perform in a manner that is inconsistent with the way you see yourself”. This ties into to faking it til you make it. When I first heard this term it was mostly dealing with outward appearance. If you dress to impress, then people will take you more seriously. If you want to be successful, then you must dress, act and carry yourself as if you are successful right now. What if it takes a while before you are a success? It is inevitable that disaster will happen when your mind catches on to what you are doing before you achieve your dream. You will either continue on your path to success or you will quit. Whatever the mind can conceive you can achieve. It is like you are racing against your mind to avoid a major setback.
You can pretend that you are successful, but how long can you truly fool yourself. Zig Ziglar believe that you can fool yourself for the short term. It is the long term that all the chinks will appear in your armor. If you truly do not believe that you are successful, then it will never happen for you. Micheal Jordan is a man who consistently believe in himself and his abilities. When he was cut from the team as a kid he did not give up he practiced even more. He knew deep down that he saw himself as a champion and he consistently perform in that manner as a profession in the N.B.A. Imagine when he was cut from the team and he believed deep down in what the coaches were saying. The outcome would have totally different, because he might have practiced, but he never deem himself worthy of being a champion. Micheal Jordan’s self image was stronger that many of his opponents when he played in the NBA. He imposed his will on many players to defeat them mentally as well as physically. Your self image has to be strong enough for however long it takes to achieve success in your life, relationship and business.
It is amazing how much the little things in your life, relationships and business really matters . I was witnessed this week to the final part of three seemingly insignificant events that made a dramatic change in my friend’s life. We might think that the little things does not matter, but in reality little things are more important than the big picture. The saying goes that we must stop and smell the roses. We stand from afar and admire the beauty of the rose, but how often do we stop to truly appreciate it up close. The answer is not usually.
When I think of how this relates to my business it all about “modi operandi” that is the key to my business success. If you treat your business like a “hobby” then guess what it will continue to be. It is about the little things that we do everyday to propel our businesses forward. Are you marketing, advertising and developing strategies daily in your business? If not it is not too late to begin. You may directs, contain and utilize the power of water, but you may never control or destroy it. A continuous stream of water could destroy the biggest rock over time. It might not happen for one, five or fifty but rest assure it will happen. How could doing the little things impact your life and relationships?
If you don’t believe that it is the little things stop reading this post and send your love one an unexpected appreciative “love note”. The reaction that you will receive will be surprising. This note of gratitude will not only benefit your loved one, but will also benefit you also. The series of little things is what make a great relationship. When your significant other is complaining about you leaving the toilet seat up is it really about the toilet seat of something deeper that is bothering her. As men we are late to pick up on these little “subtleties” that will snowball into an avalanche that will bury us.
The quicker that we pick up on these little “disagreements” the sooner we can work on finding the “solution”. I have placed solution in quotation, because that is a whole new discussion about men and women differences. It has come to me time and time again that it is the little things that make your life, relationship and business better. This week I want you to focus on the little things, then give me some feedback.
Napoleon Hill’s The Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson revisits the habit of doing more than paid for, which was first introduced in “Think and Grow Rich”. When I first read about this concept I saw it in a totally different light. When I write my blog articles I always let them sit for a day or so. I don’t know what it is, but for some reason I always revised it to reflect my feelings at that moment. It should be no big surprise that as I read an article that I wrote on this same topic back in June, 2009 I am feeling differently about it. The act doing more than is ask is the key to sending the right vibe out into the Universe. If you send out positive vibes, then you would receive positive vibes in return.
It is like you are building a favor chest that will overflow the more you do thing without expecting something in return. It is not only about doing more than is expected of you, but doing it without waiting for something in return. Napoleon Hill has a way of getting to the crux of the matter without hesitation. For example, I was listening to my daily morning show the other day and Steve Harvey was using the example of a neighbor borrowing sugar to get his point across. A new neighbor comes on day one to ask for a bowl of sugar, you would probably give it to him the sugar without hesitation. The neighbor leave without a simple thank you. The neighbor comes day two and the same thing happens, no thank you again. How do you react on day three when the neighbor appears at your door?
If you are in the habit of doing more than you are paid you would give the neighbor the sugar. If you are like the average person in the world, you might give the sugar but not without a barrage of choice words. There is no wrong way to respond to this attitude of ingratitude. The question is when do you stop being taken advantage of. When I managed restaurants back in the early part of my career, I learned a few critical lessons. You always will encounter people who want something for nothing. It is how you react to these “freeloaders” that matters. If you assume that everyone is like that then you will become jaded. You will look at every customer complaint as someone looking for a free meal. I treated each situation on a case by case basis, because I realized that these “freeloaders” only accounted for a small percentage of our business. I was in the habit of doing more than you are paid, so my decision was easy.
P.S. There are some crucial character traits that you need to succeed and they are initiative and leadership. Napoleon gets very deep into this subject in Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson. Read my thoughts on this topic here
Swiping emails and making them your own from your up line in EZ Money Formula is not illegal but is expected. When you work with a team that wants everyone to be successful, then converting emails to represent you is encouraged. The amazing is that the system is designed for you to do it easily. It only requires that you change the affiliate links with your username at the end. Your opt-in list is one of your most valuable asset in your home business. You must definitely appreciate it, because it is very difficult to build a proper list. Watch the video below to see how easy it is done for EZ Money Formula.
The rule of how many times you should keep in contact with your list varies. It depends on which marketing expert you speak to. Some recommend that you one a day is too many while others believes as many times as you want to sent one. The leads have opted in to your leads and if it is too much then the unsubscribe button is on every email. You must send the amount of emails that you feel comfortable with. The more your list get to know you the better. It is amazing but the people with the biggest list is not always the biggest income earners. The more your list like, and trust you is a big determinant of the size your income.
The more you keep in contact with your list the better chance that you will grow your team. It is all about growing your team and business. The more personalize your email the better. The generic auto-responder emails is designed to correspond to everyone. The email that you broadcast is to attract your targeted business partner. I leave you with this thought the more “real” you are to your list the more money you will make.
I am discovering these nuggets as I read this book. I am not surprised that I don’t know what I don’t know. “The person who won’t read is no better off than the person who can’t read.” What is the last book that you have read? If you are scratching your head with a puzzled look, then this article is about you. The power to be able read is available to most people. The problem is that most people stop reading for recreational. It is normal to read for a book report when you are in high school. It just seems that once high school is finished most people stop reading. The only book they read is a magazine or the newspaper.
It is as if once that last book report is done, a switch goes off. If you ever want to keep something a secret put it in a book. I know that that is very harsh statement, but it very true. It just seems like only a few people find and implement the secrets of success. The average person never find out the secret or have no desire to look. The saying is “seek and ye shall find”. The secret to success is written in all the greatest books of the World. You only have to open the book and apply the knowledge gain. Knowledge is the key is a famous saying from the old days. It should actually read that the application of knowledge is the key. The “person who knows but won’t use success principles and information is no better than the person who doesn’t know them.”
The gold nuggets from the classic “see You at The Top” by Zig Ziglar are never ending and plentiful. The gold nuggets that I am going to discuss today is “the price of success is much lower than the price of failure”. This quote is a reminder of a blog post I wrote a few years back. Read my blog post it dealt with the pain of failure or the pain of regret. Zig Ziglar say the same thing in a different way. It all stem from the mindset of the person in charge of his or her destiny. I don’t remember where I heard it but I remember a story of a wise man who was given a choice by an evil man.
The evil man had a bird in his hands that was hidden. The wise man could not tell if the bird was alive or dead. He asked the wise man if the bird was alive or dead. The wise man knew that if he stated that the bird was alive. The evil man would have broken the bird’s neck. He also knew that if he said the bird was dead, then the evil man would have open his head and let the bird fly away. The wise man thought about for a few and told the evil man the fate of the bird is up to you.
Zig concluded the meaning of this parable in a similar fashion “in your hands you hold the seeds of failure or the potential for greatness”. The decision to be a failure or success is up to you and you alone. If you point your finger at the person you feel is responsible for your failure. It is only natural that 3 fingers point squarely at yourself. Zig Ziglar’ statement is powerful in it own right even though it is simple stated. The price of success does cost less than the price of failure. When you fail you tend to live that failure over and over again. It is if a 2000 pound elephant is weighing you down in a kiddie pool that is your life.
I was listening to a video series by Kevin Trudeau(KT) entitled “Your Wish is Your Command”. It is very interesting audio series that makes you think about what it truly takes to be successful. He made a very interesting statement that said “Leaders are always readers”. He also gave a list of books that he believe that should be part of every serious minded entrepreneur. Leaders are always working on their mind on a regular basis. When your mind is right the “facts don’t matter”.
It is critical that you work on your thinking and motivation. It is not that you read a book once, it that you read that book many times. I have read “Think and Grow Rich” a few times now and I get different golden nuggets each time. The words on the book was not change by some “Kindle” glitch. The book did not change in the passage of time, it was I that changed.
It is amazing that you will get exactly what you need from any book that you read at the perfect time. KT uses the analogy of your favorite compact disk(CD) to illustrate the point. You were listening to this CD and by some miracle you heard a cut that you never heard before. The CD was not change, it was you that changed. The most successful not only read books, but they read the same books multiple times.
The most successful people are always reading books that improve their minds. You will not see the most successful people watching the latest reality show twenty four hours per day. It is one thing to watch television for a couple of hours per day, but never overdo it. If you are watching television all day long how can you clearly define your dreams. When you start watching a show, it is amazing how fast an hour goes by. The passage of time is so quick that making definite goals are out the window.
The key to success as defined by Napoleon Hill is clearly defined dreams and a burning desire. When you read books that help you make your dreams more targeted is the best way to spend your time. The time you spend as a coach potato is not going to help you achieve success. The key is focus on your goals with a burning desire for success and you will be successful.
