Personal Development: Positive or Negative Thoughts Determines Your Destiny

Napoleon Hill writes in the book “Think and Grow Rich” that if you can conceive it you can achieve it.  If the path to riches was a marathon, then thoughts would be considered the first step.  Thoughts that are conducive to success will keep failure at bay.  Have you no matter how hard you tried could not remember a thought from a few minutes earlier?

The foundation of all success starts with a thought.  Your thoughts are important because your thoughts in turn become your words.  For example, if your mind is filled with negative self talk, then your words will derail your success.  You must fill up your mind with positive thoughts through personal development.

I am not talking about the rah-rah pump it up positivity temporary fix; no I am talking about goal driven thoughts.  I remember when I sold a very expensive product door to door our supervisor always had these meetings that were purely rah-rah pump you up and send you out the door.  He really believed that these meetings were the highlight of the day.  This concept did not work because it was one to two hours before you got into your first home to present the product.  You had to be able to motivate yourself.

Your goals had to be big enough to overcome the negative thoughts swimming in your head on that long ride to your presentation.  The beauty of tasting success is that nothing hurt when you are winning.  When your sales are down, then every little thing is a major issue.  One on one selling is one of the most transparent forms of selling.

Your potential customers will pick up on your stinking thinking.  A critical part of the presentation was performing a mattress test in your prospect‘s bedroom.  I have closed many deals at this point of the presentation and the rest was just a formality.  If you are not confident enough, then you would never be able to accomplish this key part of the presentation.  Your words move you to action, moving you towards your goals for the future.

If you are unable to move to action to perform a critical part of the presentation, a bad habit will form.  The habit of not doing your best will lead to you taking shortcuts.  You will no longer attempt to get into the bedroom, your sales would decrease. When you are in a funk amazingly everyone else is to blame for your failure.  A habit is whether good or bad is formed anywhere from 21-59 days of action so pay close attention to your actions.

Your character of who you truly are to the core is developed by these habits.  Your character in turn determines your destiny.  Where you are in live can be traced back to actions or inactions done by you.  These negative thoughts will become your future unless you make a conscious effort through personal development to change. Your destiny started from thoughts, so cultivate your thoughts wisely.

Personal Development: A Little Snake Could Interfere With Your Success

I am committed to my Personal Development so I walk or run as part of my daily exercising regimen.  While we were walking on Tuesday last week we came across a little snake that was obstructing in our path.  The little snake was prohibiting us from moving forward.  I have a phobia about snakes whether big or small, but my girlfriend’s phobia is worse.  I kept trying to tell her baby let just go around it.

She said you don’t know if the mommy snake was in the grass with more babies so she was not going to do that.  We turn back and went on the hunt for rocks or anything we could use to get him out of the way.  It is amazing that when you need a rock that there are none to be found.  A long branch would have been nice to coax him out of our path no way, no such luck.  I kept on telling her that he was dead. I finally convinced her to go around the snake in the grass where according to her there was a possibility of the mommy snake.  This little snake delayed us for about five minutes; we could have progressed much further in our walk.

This little incident made me realized that they are many little snakes that we allow to delay us on our road to success.  There are a limited amount of options available to us to deal with this obstruction. Which are to go through, step over, go around the snakes or turn back?  The decision must be made without using your phobias as an excuse as to why you are not succeeding.  We would have saved time if we just went around the snake right away.  What little snake do you have in your path to success?

P.S That snake was on my girlfriend’s mind for the next couple of days when we walked.  She kept looking for that snake in the same spot.  Is there an acceptable time limit to get over the little snake in your path to success?

Will You be The Rock That Redirects The Course of The River

“Will you be the rock that redirects the course of the river?” is a quote that I came across made by Claire Nuer.  The reason I think this resounded with me is because I was also listening to the Discovery Series this week and one of the Luminaries was discussing the power of water.  We might take a big bat and hit water with such force but to no avail and a sore arm is probably the only outcome that would result.  The water is just disturbed temporarily and goes back to flowing in its direction of choice without acknowledging you.  The power of the water is tremendous individually.  The real strength of water is that we may able to harness the power but never control it.  If we were able to harness the power that we have within us we would be more phenomenal.

The secret to our success lies deep down inside of us dormant.  The wonderful thing about something being dormant is that it has the potential to come alive.  One of best way to access it is through self empowerment and personal development.  The limiting beliefs that we have will not go away without learning new skills and knowledge.  The belief system that we live our daily live by are from years of negative conditioning.   We must systematically reach inside ourselves and reverse this state of being.  It is never too late to make that transformation.   The most influential people in the World always credit personal development as a reason for his or her success. We can choose to be the rock that redirects the direction of our lives or continue to watch the water return to its original as if our brief interference of its path which is our life did not phase it.

Top 4 Ways to Overcome Negative Thoughts

The greatest asset that we possess is our mind.  The greatest liability that we possess is our mind.  The mind is a double edged sword, because your actions and in actions all stems from the space between your ears.  Napoleon Hill states that the road to success starts with your thoughts.  Your positive thoughts will lead to consistent actions and eventual success in your life, business and relationships.  Failure arises when your mind is filled with negative thoughts that lead to total inactions. What are the steps that you must take to clear up this clutter?  I use the following four methods to eliminate the negative thoughts.

1. Positive Feedback

You are told on a consistent basis that you will never amount to anything for most of your life.  The odds are that you will begin to believe these statements made by your family and peers.  The mind is like fertile land that if you plant seeds with the proper food and nutrients, then strong plants will grow.  If you have a field that is overgrown with weed, shrubs and soil that is barren, then truly nothing positive will grow.  The first thing we would have to do is clear this field and then work on the soil to make it fertile.  Positive feedback is a great way to add fertilization to the soil.  When I was in Junior High School, a teacher that I did not even know stop me in the hallway and told that he was looking forward to having me in his class next year. He turned out to be Mr. Rosen my mathematics teacher in the ninth grade.  I received the highest Mathematics Regent score in the whole school and I walk the stage at graduation to celebrate that fact.  The positive feedback that I knew he was receiving from other teachers had a lot to do with him approaching me.  You must make list of incidents where people told you positive things about you to reinforce and strengthened your mind.

2. Storytelling

Spiderman is a superhero in a comic’s strip that narrates and tells his day to day life as a college student and as a super hero.  Who do you see yourself as Peter Parker or Spiderman?  I would like to say that most of us see ourselves as Spiderman.  We would want to the satisfaction of saving lives and helping people without all of the hoopla.  We must visualize our lives the way we want it to be.  We can write our own story where we are the superhero and not the victim.  When you write your destiny the way you see it then your thoughts and actions will help you achieve it.  We sometimes suffer from the victim’s mentality where we ask Spiderman why he is trying to save us.  The victim has a strong desire to stay in his muck and mire and pull Spiderman down.  Spiderman uses his mental strength and ability to stop you from making him become a victim also.  Misery loves company.  Visualization is one of the best ways to eliminate these negative thought so you may more forward in achieving success in your life, business and relationships.

3. Media Blitz

Personal development is a compilation of books, tape, videos, seminars and audio that we listen or participated in.  We are bombarded on a daily basis with news reports on every conceivable bad thing that can happen in any given day.  The media spend more time on reporting negative news versus bringing positive news to light.  The money is in reporting the negative news.   What do you think would happen if you shut off the media from entering your thoughts?   I have made a conscious decision that I will not watch television on a daily basis.  The greatest thing about it is that I don’t even miss it.  You would have more space in your brain to fill it with more excellent personal developing material.  If something disastrous happens someone will let you know.  They are many candidates out there who like to be the bearer of bad news.  Just keep the negative media out of your mind and focus on more positive thoughts.  Food for thought: The wealthier a person becomes the less television they watch.

4. Mastermind Group

You must spend more time with the people that have your best interest at heart and less with the ones who don’t.  Mastermind groups of like minded individual who spend time building you up to help you achieve your goals are the best people to associate yourself.  You must cut out the negative naysayers that are currently in your life.  If they are preoccupied with telling you how to live your life, then you need to cut them out.  The most successful people have a network of positive and encouraging people.  One of the richest men in the World, Warren Buffet, give another of the world’s richest, Bill Gates, billions of dollars to invest in Bill Gates ‘s charity.  Is that a coincidence or a mastermind group?  I would definitely say that that relationship is one the best mastermind group in the World.

I repeat that the mind is one of the greatest assets in our life.  Our mind is also our greatest liability in our life.  You can control almost everything that is placed in your mind on a daily basis.  You may choose to develop your mind to a strong entity that allows you success in your life, business and relationship or let become barren land that nothing may grow on it.  The four methods mentioned above are the one that I use on a regular basis.  The choice is yours, chose wisely.

Some Reflection on “Finding Your Own North Star” by Martha Beck

I just started reading the book “Finding Your Own North Star claiming the life you were meant to live” and from the few pages this book is resonating with me.  We each have two selves inside us which are the essential self and the social self.  The essential self is the intricate compasses that “continuously point toward your North Star”.  The social self is the “set of skills that actually carry toward this goal”.  For example, your essential self want passionately to become an engineer, your social self will struggle through calculus and physics.  You will achieve success in your life when your essential self and social self are in alignment.  You will be amazed how your body, mind and soul are affected when your inner selves are out of alignment.  Have you ever found yourself sabotaging your job by being late, daydreaming, and countless other ways?  This is a perfect example of our essential self speaking to us and we continue to ignore it.

When I was a student as early as junior high school all of my teachers recognized that I was excellent in mathematics and science.  The profession that all of them recommended was engineering.  My social self listened to them and went on to earn my B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  I have had my degree for over seventeen years and I have never worked in a job as an engineer.  I did not listen to my essential self because I just listened to what my teachers said.

The next thing that is drilled into to us is working for a company for over twenty-five years, retire and then travel.  The current economical environment of today shows us that this theory is a fallacy.  If I had taken the time to reflect and listened to whatever my essential self said. Who knows how much further in life I would be today?  When the essential self and social self are in alignment the satisfaction that you get out of your life would be everlasting.  My charge to you is that you take the time to listen to your essential self.

Personal Development and The Sixth Step to Riches

The Book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill discusses thirteen steps to riches. Organized planning is the sixth step to riches. Desire is the first step to riches and organized planning is the crystallization of desire in action. Your personal development training is useless unless you have an organized plan to accomplish it.   Your riches will only grow in proportion to your personal development.  The more you grow the more weapons you have in your arsenal to succeed. Napoleon Hill refers to forming a mastermind group, even though he has not discussed how to form one at this point in the book.  It is a good policy to have your plans checked and approved by your mastermind group. No one person is an island, therefore the cooperation of other people is critical in generating wealth.  Your mastermind group does not guaranty that your plans will work.  You will use their collective knowledge and experiences to come up with the best possible plan.  Personal developing mind will make you stronger mentally to come up with better definitive plans to help you on your road to riches.

Your organized plan still might not work; if it does not work then replace it with another plan until success is achieved. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. The people who fail in their personal development lack the persistence to create new plans when old ones fail. Your plans must be practical and workable to be able to succeed.  We would not have the incandescent electric light bulb today if Thomas Edison did not fail over 10,000 times.  Every time he failed Thomas Edison evaluated why he failed and made another plan of action.  He did not fall short of his goal.  Thomas Edison is a perfect example that your consistent and persistent action will help you succeed in your personal development.

True Personal Development Education Requires Health and Wellness Awareness

Successful people sometimes give up their health to gain wealth. These same people then will give up their wealth to gain health. Your personal development education requires you train your mind, body and spirit.  Health and Wellness is a major industry and continuously growing everyday.  More people are focusing on preventing and keeping off illnesses.   You would be doing yourself an injustice if you only focused on just developing your mind.  Your body is one of the greatest marvels in the World; the inner working of your body is very complicated and intricate. Your heart is capable of beating until you are well over 100 hundred years old. The main factors that can stop your work of art from operating properly in its track are lack of exercise and your diet.  We must find the right combination of diet and exercise.  You must make a decision whether to live to eat or eat to live.   When you choose to eat to live, then food intake is easy.  There are five dirty ingredients that are detrimental to your health.  When you diet is filled with these ingredients you are more susceptible to diseases.

The five dirty ingredients are listed below:

1. High fructose corn syrup

2. Artificial color

3. Artificial Flavor

4. Enriched Flour

5. Partially hydrogenated and hydrogenated oils

You would be surprised how many products in your home have the ingredients above. Go to your refrigerator and cupboard and take an inventory of the five dirty ingredients. You will be amazed at the amount of products that have these ingredients. Your body is your temple so you have to be very careful that you don’t abuse it. You should be aware of the type of food which give or take away your energy.  When we are a little depressed we tend to eat sweets.  Sugar is one of the worst detriments to our body. We have many essential acids that are necessary to help our body function sugar is not one of them. The person who lives to eat life will be surrounded by these five dirty ingredients.   The next piece of puzzle that is extremely important is exercise.

A consistent program of exercise that has been shown to improve your bodily function is listed below:

1. Decreased risk of stroke and heart disease

2. Decreased body fat

3. Improved movements of joints and muscles

4. Improved oxygen deliveries throughout the body

5. Improved sense of well-being

6. Improved strength and endurance

Your exercise does not have to be four hours per day every day of the year.  You may exercise for twenty minutes per day for three times per week and your body will still reap the benefits listed above.  Don’t be a fanatic about exercising just develop consistency in your exercise program.

Your personal development training encompasses your mind, body and spirit. It is very important that your personal development training includes a structured program for your mind and body.  Your health and wellness care is an important arsenal in your personal development tools.   Your mind will try to fix or solve the problem when your body is not functioning at its best.  When you have your priorities in the proper sequence then diet and exercise becomes part of your life.  The right synergy of improving your personal development and taking care of your body must be achieved.  If your diet and exercise becomes natural like breathing then you know that success is not far away.

Personal Development And The Third Step to Riches Per Napoleon Hill’s Think And Grow Rich

Napoleon Hill in the book “Think and Grow Rich” writes that autosuggestion is the third step to riches. Autosuggestion is all self administered stimuli that you receive through your five senses. They are very simple ways that you can develop this skill to help you in your personal development.  The following steps are very easy to implement, but its takes discipline to do it on a daily basis.

You must see yourself as already achieving your goals.  Visualization is a key to autosuggestion. The more you visualize your goal as if you accomplished it already, the better chance you have to achieve it.  The first thing is find a quiet and relaxing background with minimal distractions.  It is great to do this before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning.  Turn off the cell phone, computer and any other distractions that could interrupt you.  You must have a written statement of your goal, time frame you want to achieve it, and what you will give up to accomplished it.  Repeat this statement aloud so that it goes from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind.  Repetition is the motherhood of learning so repeat this statement everyday until it is accomplished.  Keep your statement in different locations that you can see it morning and night.  Once it had been memorized, then you will be able to truly internalize it.

These instructions may seem simplistic in nature, but if you follow these instructions your skepticism will be replaced by belief.  When you invest in your personal development the greater your wealth will grow.  Your thoughts determine your destiny and learning and acquiring different knowledge will help your personal development.  When you have the power to influence your subconscious mind then you will gain control of yourself and your environment.
