Success Large and Small is Proof That You Can Achieve More

Filed under: Personal Development,Self Empowerment — Tags: , , , — Shirland Carrington @ 8:15 am

“Every success be it large or small, is proof that you are capable of achieving more successes”.  Napoleon Hill made that previous statement in “Think and Grow Rich”.  I understood this to mean exacting as it is quoted from “Think and Grow Rich”.  You must take the time to appreciate the smaller things in life so that when times are rough you would look back at those small successes.

Success is defined as “the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals.”  The “prosperous termination of attempts”, it does not state how many attempts were made just that you achieved your goals.  When you are trying to make that first dollar online and you achieve that goal why did you not celebrate it.  Sam Cooke sang that “change is gonna come” and one thing that you can be sure is that you can never have highs without lows.

I think that most people focus on the big picture of success so when the little successes arrives that person tends to ignore them.  “You can recall it when you begin to lose faith in yourself”Napoleon Hill’s “think and Grow Rich”.  One thing you know is that when the small successes is few and far between you will want to quit.  I remember many years ago when a new business was opened the owner use to keep the first dollar that he or she made.  The owner would tape it to the wall as a reminder that the journey was started.

I have learn that it is better to celebrate the small accomplishment so that the large successes will be appreciated even more.  This might be the difference between quitting or continue towards your goals.  Celebrating small successes is sometimes very difficult for people that are not accustom to being successful.

Golden Nuggets #5: Education and Intelligence is Not The Same Thing Zig Ziglar See You at The Top

Zig Ziglar in his book “See you at The Top” talks about education vs. intelligence and which one is more important.  Zig states that ” three of the most intelligent and success people I know finished the 3rd, 5th and 8th grades.”  He was talking about Henry Ford and Thomas J. Watson were two of the three.  Henry Ford legacy is still going on today.  Henry Ford believed that if he needed anything beyond his capacity he would hire that person.  He knew his strengths and weaknesses and was not ashamed to get someone who knew the answer.  He also knew how to get what he needed out of his “people”.  Watson was the “founder of IBM and he went from a $6.00 a week salesman to chairman of the board”.  The American dream at it finest.   The difference between these two and the “average” guy is that they were dedicated.  The “formal” education was not necessary for these highly successful people.  It was the intelligence and the will to never quit that made them successful.

When I was growing up I was told to go to school and complete your education.  I would then go to work for a company for twenty-five to thirty years and then retire and live happily ever after.  I know that scenario sound familiar to many people.  I follow that path for many years but, then I realized that it was not the life for me.  When I had that awakening I have always been on alert for the opportunity that would help me succeed.  I don’t believe in jumping on the next shiny object that catches my eye.  I follow opportunities that I feel good about.

If you missed gold nugget #4 which deals specifically about the fact you cannot consistently perform in a manner that is inconsistent with the way you see yourself”.

Education is one thing, but intelligence is totally something else all together.   My formal degree is Electrical Engineering,  my real education I imagine would not begin until after I read my last Engineering book.  It would be the hands on knowledge that would make me a successful engineer.  My first degree is Electrical Engineering , I have never held a position with that title.  I can only speculate that how it would be in my life since everything else I do is actually like that.

Zig Ziglar believe that intelligence is not required to be successful.  He state success is in the hands of the person who is trying to achieve it.  It is only necessary like Napoleon Hill’s stated that he has a burning desire towards the achievement of his or her goals and dreams.

Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success Lesson #7: Self- Control is The Balance Wheel That Directs Your Action

Napoleon Hill writes in “Law of Success in Fifteen Lessons” Enthusiasm is a “vital moving force that impels action” and Self control is the “balance wheel that directs your action so that it will build up and not tear down.”  Self control is compared to a balance wheel which is a key component of mechanical watches.  It is very important that it returns to its original position.  When we are not in control of our action it is most likely that we will be lead astray.  Enthusiasm is contagious you may pass it on to the next person easily. Have you either watch a person who was so on fire that you found your self getting emotionally charged.  You were ready to do whatever the person wanted you to do  at the time.  When the person left how did you keep that enthused feeling up.  The odds are you did not, because it may have passed on without difficult.

Self control is the most important trait that you must possess when you are trying to stay on track.  The track is never cleared of obstacles, but  controlling one’s self allow your goals and dreams to come true.  When you continue to struggle daily in your business and your goals never come to fruition.  The desire to give up is a daily demon and it is very easy to give up.  the worse enemy that we face on a daily basis is the negativity between our ears.  The self defeating, self defecating and mental vomit that we feed ourselves on a regular basis.

The more control that you have over the space between the ears the greater the opportunity that you will succeed in your life, business and relationship.  It does not a strong belief in the Law of Attraction that “if you belief that you can’t that it is so”.  I have been in and around selling for most of my life and one thing I know is that if you believe that that person will not buy from you, it is no surprise when they don’t.  I am not saying that you will sell everyone that you present your product or services to, but if you don’t have self-control.  No sale. Self control is the key to continue your journey to become successful.

It is The Little Things That Matter to Make Your Life, Relationship and Business Flourish

It is amazing how much the little things in your life, relationships and business really matters .  I was witnessed this week to the final part of three seemingly insignificant events that made a dramatic change in my friend’s life.   We might think that the little things does not matter, but in reality little things are more important than the big picture.  The saying goes that we must stop and smell the roses.  We stand from afar and admire the beauty of the rose, but how often do we stop to truly appreciate it up close.  The answer is not usually.

When I think of how this relates to my business it all about “modi operandi” that is the key to my business success.  If you treat your business like a “hobby” then guess what it will continue to be.  It is about the little things that we do everyday to propel our businesses forward.  Are you marketing, advertising and developing strategies daily in your business?  If not it is not too late to begin.  You may directs, contain and utilize the power of water, but you may never control or destroy it.  A continuous stream of water could destroy the biggest rock over time.  It might not happen for one, five or fifty but rest assure it will happen.  How could doing the little things impact your life and relationships?

If you don’t believe that it is the little things stop reading this post and send your love one an unexpected appreciative “love note”.  The reaction that you will receive will be surprising.  This note of gratitude will not only benefit your loved one, but will also benefit you also.  The series of little things is what make a great relationship.  When your significant other is complaining about you leaving the toilet seat up is it really about the toilet seat of something deeper that is bothering her. As men we are late to pick up on these little “subtleties” that will snowball into an avalanche that will bury us.

The quicker that we pick up on these little “disagreements”  the sooner we can work on finding the “solution”.  I have placed solution in quotation, because that is a whole new discussion about men and women differences.  It has come to me time and time again that it is the little things that make your life, relationship and business better.  This week I want you to focus on the little things, then give me some feedback.

Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For is Revisited

Napoleon Hill’s The Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson revisits the habit of doing more than paid for, which was first introduced in “Think and Grow Rich”.  When I first read about this concept I saw it in a totally different light.  When I write my blog articles I always let them sit for a day or so.  I don’t know what it is, but for some reason I always revised it to reflect my feelings at that moment.  It should be no big surprise that as I read an article that I wrote on this same topic back in June, 2009 I am feeling differently about it.  The act doing more than is ask is the key to sending the right vibe out into the Universe.  If you send out positive vibes, then you would receive positive vibes in return.

It is like you are building a favor chest that will overflow the more you do thing without expecting something in return.  It is not only about doing more than is expected of you, but doing it without waiting for something in return.  Napoleon Hill has a way of getting to the crux of the matter without hesitation.  For example,  I was listening to my daily morning show the other day and Steve Harvey was using the example of a neighbor borrowing sugar to get his point across.  A new neighbor comes on day one to ask for a bowl of sugar, you would probably give it to him the sugar without hesitation.  The neighbor leave without a simple thank you. The neighbor comes  day two and the same thing happens,  no thank you again.  How do you react on day three when the neighbor appears at your door?

If you are in the habit of doing more than you are paid you would give the neighbor the sugar.  If you are like the average person in the world, you might give the sugar but not without a barrage of choice words.  There is no wrong way to respond to this attitude of ingratitude. The question is when do you stop being taken advantage of.  When I  managed restaurants back in the early part of my career,  I learned a few critical lessons.  You always will encounter people who want something for nothing.  It is how you react to these “freeloaders” that matters.  If you assume that everyone is like that then you will become jaded.  You will look at every customer complaint as someone looking for a free meal.  I treated each situation on a case by case basis,  because I realized that these “freeloaders” only accounted for a small percentage of our business.   I was in the habit of doing more than you are paid, so my decision was easy.

P.S.  There are some crucial character traits that you need to succeed and they are initiative and leadership.  Napoleon gets very deep into this subject in Law of Success in Fifteen Lesson.  Read my thoughts on this topic  here

The More You Read The More Successful You Will Become

I was listening to a video series by Kevin Trudeau(KT) entitled “Your Wish is Your Command”. It is very interesting audio series that makes you think about what it truly takes to be successful.  He made a very interesting statement that said “Leaders are always readers”.  He also gave a list of books that he believe that should be part of every serious minded entrepreneur.  Leaders are always working on their mind on a regular basis.  When your mind is right the “facts don’t matter”.

It is critical that you work on your thinking and motivation.  It is not that you read a book once, it that you read that book many times.  I have read “Think and Grow Rich” a few times now and I get different golden nuggets each time.  The words on the book was not change by some “Kindle” glitch.  The book did not change in the passage of time, it was I that changed.

It is amazing that you will get exactly what you need from any book that you read at the perfect time.  KT uses the analogy of your favorite compact disk(CD) to illustrate the point.  You were listening to this CD and by some miracle you heard a cut that   you never heard before.  The CD was not change, it was you that changed.  The most successful not only read books, but they read the same books multiple times.

The most successful people are always reading books that improve their minds.  You will not see the most successful people watching the latest reality show twenty four hours per day.  It is one thing to watch television for a couple of hours per day, but never overdo it.  If you are watching television all day long how can you clearly define your dreams.  When you start watching a show,  it is amazing how fast an hour goes by.  The passage of time is so quick that making definite goals are out the window.

The key to success as defined by Napoleon Hill is clearly defined dreams and a burning desire.  When you read books that help you make your dreams more targeted is the best way to spend your time.   The time you spend as a coach potato is not going to help you achieve success.  The key is focus on your goals with a burning desire for success and you will be successful.

Thoughts Whether Good or Bad Determines Your Altitude

Napoleon Hill writes in the book “Think and Grow Rich” that if you can conceive it you can achieve it.  If the path to riches was a marathon, then thoughts would be considered the first step.  Thoughts that are conducive to success will keep failure at bay.  Have you no matter how hard you tried could not remember a thought from a few minutes earlier?

The foundation of all success starts with a thought.  Your thoughts are important because your thoughts in turn become your words.  For example, if your mind is filled with negative self-talk, then your words will derail your success.  You must fill up your mind with positive thoughts through personal development.  Visualization is a co-partner to your thoughts because you have to be about to see yourself being successful.  There was an experiment conducted where basketball players were assigned two different tasks.  One set of the players were told to shoot free throw as soon as possible will the others were told to visualize themselves shooting the ball into the hoop before actually shooting it.  The players who visualize had a better shooting percentage.  The act of seeing in your mind eye the ball going to the hoop was far more powerful, then just continuously shooting at will.  Your thoughts will carry you through and will indeed determine your altitude.

I am not talking about the rah-rah pump it up positivity temporary fix; no I am talking about goal driven thoughts.  I remember when I sold a very expensive product door to door our supervisor always had these meetings that were purely rah-rah pump you up and send you out the door.  He really believed that these meetings were the highlight of the day.  This concept did not work because it was one to two hours before you got into your first home to present the product.  You had to be able to motivate yourself.

Your goals had to be big enough to overcome the negative thoughts swimming in your head on that long ride to your presentation.  The beauty of tasting success is that nothing hurt when you are winning.  When your sales are down, then every little thing is a major issue.  One on one selling is one of the most transparent forms of selling.

Your potential customers will pick up on your stinking thinking.  A critical part of the presentation was performing a mattress test in your prospect‘s bedroom.  I have closed many deals at this point of the presentation and the rest was just a formality.  If you are not confident enough, then you would never be able to accomplish this key part of the presentation.  Your words move you to action, moving you towards your goals for the future.

If you are unable to move to action to perform a critical part of the presentation, a bad habit will form.  The habit of not doing your best will lead to you taking shortcuts.  You will no longer attempt to get into the bedroom, your sales would decrease. When you are in a funk amazingly everyone else is to blame for your failure.  A habit is whether good or bad is formed anywhere from 21-59 days of action so pay close attention to your actions.

Your character of who you truly are to the core is developed by these habits.  Your character in turn determines your destiny.  Where you are in life can be traced back to actions or in-actions done by you.  These negative thoughts will become your future unless you make a conscious effort through personal development to change. Your destiny started from thoughts, so cultivate your thoughts wisely.

The Final Ingredient for Success:The Thirteenth Step to Riches is The Sixth Sense

The sixth sense is another intangible concept like The Brain, which is the twelfth step to riches that Napoleon Hill presented in “Think and Grow Rich”.  The thirteenth step to riches as dictated by Napoleon Hill is the Sixth Sense.  The Sixth Sense is truly a concept that cannot be put into words.  Have you ever felt something was not right with a situation but you could not put your fingers on why?  The worse that we can do with our sixth sense is ignoring it. Our normal five senses of touch, sight, taste, feel and  hear when worked in tandem with each other can make any situation tangible.  The mysterious sixth sense sends us signals that can’t be verified or confirmed by anything else.  The number of live testimonials from someone who did not get on a plane then inevitably crashed.  These people are alive because they listened to that “inner voice”.  The road to riches is paved with many unsuccessful people who fell to the wayside.  GAP did a very unsuccessful publicity campaign where they change their logo.  I don’t know what inner voice told tell that that is what people wanted.  The saying is that publicity is good whether negative or positive; if the cost to make new paraphernalia was less than the sales generated then it worked.

The repercussion of not listening may be as minor as not turning off on a side street to avoid a major traffic jam or major in making an investment that could possibly send your family to ruins.  The fact remains that when we listen to this voice the next thought that goes through our mind is an affirmation of making the correct choice.  This sixth sense is about as intangible as any concept that we may encounter.  It is not for us to prove or disprove this concept but to know that it may help you in your steps to riches.  These riches may be financial, physical or mental.  The importance of your riches is truly up to you.  Napoleon Hill throughout this whole book is that “if it is to be it is up to me” The steps to riches are an abstract as well as a blueprint that may lead you wherever you want to go. The first step is truly up to you as a man much wiser than me have stated over and over again.

The Eleventh Step to Riches The Subconscious Mind Per Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich

The subconscious mind holds many mysteries for all of us yet Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich states that this is the eleventh step to riches.   The subconscious mind is the link between the conscious mind and implementation of any ideas and plans.  Have you ever waked up in the middle of the night with the solution to a problem that you had been wrestling with all day?  It could be a person name that for the life of you, you could not remember.  When you laid your head down the subconscious took over.  The fact that you gave attention to that problem was enough acknowledgments for your mind to go to work on the solution.  I might not know how the subconscious mind works, but I know that I work.

I enter a room and turn on the light switch and the majority of the time the lights comes on.  The average person might not know how electricity but they are not going to go out their way to learn why.  They will continue to enjoy these illuminations in total unknowing bliss; the subconscious mind is just like that.  When we tap into our subconscious mind we don’t need to know exactly how it works.  The main requirement is that we must tap into it.  The subconscious mind is a link between your conscious mind and your desires.  It is a medium that we know a small fraction of how it works, but we get evidence of it everyday.  The operation of the subconscious mind is a mystery, but left to its own vices will take your plan, desire or purpose to fruition.

The Tenth Step to Riches is Sex Transmutation Per Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich

My initial understanding of Napoleon Hill describing the tenth step to riches, Sex Transmutation, in his famous book “Think and Grow Rich” has evolved into a deeper understanding.  It is proven fact that when you read a book over and over again you will get different nuggets from it.  “Think and Grow Rich” is one such book.  I have now read this concept about six times now and my understanding is deeper. Transmute is the changing or transferring of one element or form of energy into another.

Watch the video below to learn more about my initial impression:

YouTube Preview Image

I thought originally that the tenth step to riches of Sex Transmutation was about abstaining from sex and using that power to achieve your goals.  I have expanded my thinking to include harnessing that power achieving a higher plane and then attacking your endeavors with a renew concentration.  I think that these concepts are similar to long distance runners and marathoners who push their bodies beyond what the average person can do.  Runners get into what is called a zone where they feel they can run forever.  These runners achieve a level where speed and comfort are maximized.

The runner has to fight internally when they reach the “wall” where the desire to quit becomes stronger and stronger.  As a runner you have to go deep to overcome ultimate failure.  Willpower is easier said than done, but the ultimate reward is substantial.  The stronger your power to will yourself to the finish line the closer you will be to being successful.  Sex transmutation is an excellent example of having to get into that “zone” to combat something that is so natural.

Sexual expression is a natural part of your life and can never be destroyed.  The choice is either finding a constructive outlet for it or indulging in the purely physical aspect of it.  An animal becomes docile after their sex organs are castrated so imagine a man without this source of power.  A transmutation of this energy will help you in the long term when you have the power to overcome the will to indulge in sexual activity.
